Hey from Madrid!

Hey, I’m in Madrid at the moment. My boyfriend  gave me the trip as a Christmas present so that we could eat at the restaurant Diverxo after having enjoyed it so much last year.

As we were here, we also took the opportunity to go last night to Club Allard, which is another 2 Michelin star restaurant and it was absolutely amazing: surprise after surprise. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes modern cuisine.

We arrived yesterday afternoon and took the underground from the airport to our hotel AC Carlton, which is part of the Marriott chain. The hotel is a little out of town and we had to take three trains to get there, which took over an hour with the suitcases.

The hotel is very beautiful and worth staying a little out of the centre but we did have a major struggle trying to get wifi access in the room. You can read about that here.

Today didn’t get off to such a great start as I woke with self-inflicted headache, the button fell of my coat (bloody Zara, serves me right) and the road cleaner guy literally swept me off my feet with a filthy and soaking wet sweeping brush. Thanks. But after that the day got good.

We have spent the day shopping around Gran Via in the sales. It was Toni who wanted to shop. I wasn’t going to buy anything. It was I who came back with a huge bag full from Sfera and another one from Desigual. Oops!

I just love Desigual though. I’m not keen on all those circles that appear on every item but if you can find something a bit less Desigual it can be very cool. And the shop itself is so funky that it’s just fun to spend time there. The shop near the Gran Via is one of the big stores that has an outlet on the top floor. Forget all the other floors, just go straight to the top.

Madrid is a great place for shopping and wining: there are so many little bars down tiny cobbled side streets so it makes a great change to sit and relax with a glass of wine between shops. That way you don’t get too tired shopping.

Plans for the rest of the trip are:

  • Tonight, we are eating at Estado Puro tapas bar (wearing my new clothes from today’s shopping trip of course).

I’m really looking forward to this place as we stopped earlier there for a cheeky glass of wine and the menu looked delicious and the place so cool.

  • Tomorrow lunch at Diverxo, the whole purpose of the trip.

I also can’t wait for that as I’ll be reliving the wonderful experience that I had last year (or so I hope).

Afterwards we plan to go around the backstreets near the Gran Via where there are some funky little shops.

  • Then the next day we are home.
  • And the day after that we’re off to Prague…. yay!
