Well Happy New Year everyone! And sorry I haven’t had the chance to say it yet.
I’ve been busy busy busy… But I know, I get it; who hasn’t? Tell you something new, right?
Well I thought I’d start with a little update and let you know what to expect on the blog soon…
So with no further ado:
Wining in Priorat
In November I was travelling for two weeks around the stunning Priorat region of Catalunya visiting wine cellars, walking and exploring. Me and Toni took the car over on the ferry from Alcudia to Barcelona and set off from there. We managed to stuff about 150 bottles of wine into the small car and then lug it all back to Mallorca.
Since then we’ve been trying to get through it all! We’ve made a good inroads too!
Dining in San Sebastian
At the end of November we went to San Sebastian in northern Spain to eat eat eat!
My birthday present from Toni was a weekend away in San Sebastian and with a meal at Mugaritz, one of Spain’s top restaurants with two Michelin stars.
As you know, I am quite into fine dining and often take a short city break of a few days to eat at top restaurants around Spain. I don’t normally share those experiences on the blog but I can if you would like to read about them. Let me know if you are interested.
Serious relax at Las Caldas
We couldn’t decide what to do over Christmas so we decided to do NOTHING! We took a flight to Asturias and then a bus to Las Caldas and stayed for a blissful week in the Gran Hotel Las Caldas spending all our days hopping between the sauna, jacuzzi and different pools.
Imagine waking up on Christmas morning, stuffing yourself senseless at what has to be the best breakfast buffet in Spain and then donning your bathrobe and submerging yourself into the delicious therapeutic waters of the spa for the rest of the day… heaven.
What did you do over Christmas? Anyone take a trip too?
Parents for Kings!
Because haven’t been to England this winter yet, my mum and dad decided to come over to Mallorca for the Three Kings celebration (our main Christmas celebration here). It was the first time they had been over for Three Kings and so we went to see the procession and scrabbled for the sweets they throw to (or at) you.
We were so lucky to have great weather here for those few days and we spent the days hiking and eating.
And on the way home my parents had a four hour delay at the airport and got 600€ back from Ryanair no questions asked! Surprised? We were extremely surprised. If you’ve had a delay of over 3 hours, message me and I’ll let you know what my parents did.
How my Mediterranean man looks after me! My Christmas present was a weekend away in Barcelona and dinner at TWO amazing restaurants: Pakta (and I’m definitely going to share my experience about this because it was fantastic) and Enigma. Never heard of Enigma? You will. Just try to book a table there and let me know if you manage it…
Actually you can read about some of my other fine dining experiences here.
After the longest period of wet weather in Mallorca that I have ever known, Toni and I packed our flip flops and flew on 26th Jan to Lanzarote for some much needed sunshine.
(Okay, I know you think I’m already spoiled for sunshine in Mallorca, but I need winter sun just as much as you do!)
And I’m pleased to say we did get some great sunshine.
It was my first time in Lanzarote and I’d fancied going for ages. So this was our main winter holiday this year. (Have you noticed that I haven’t left Spain at all this winter?) We spent a week in Lanzarote and a week in Fuerteventura and I have to say I was totally blown away (yes, literally too!) by these islands’ beauty. We did some amazing activities and had some great meals.
I was so impressed by these two Canary Islands that I’ve already written loads of posts as I went along. So you will definitely see Lanzarote and Fuerteventura on InMyShoesTravel very soon…
Just as soon as I’ve finished with Sri Lanka.
And that’s my plan now: to really knuckle down and finish posting about my Sri Lanka backpacking trip. I’ve had loads of comments and messages lately from people saying that they are finding my Sri Lanka blog really useful for planning their own trip. So I feel bad that there’s only about two thirds of the info already there.
And well, I got back from Fuerteventura just two days ago and the next trip is another weekend in Barcelona later this month… Let’s see which restaurant takes my fancy. Any recommendations?
