As part of our current Madrid Gastronomy theme, I am telling you about my favourite place to eat cheese in Madrid. It is called Poncelet Cheese Bar (click for location).

Poncelet Cheese Bar, Madrid

The Poncelet Cheese Bar in Madrid is a beautiful restaurant. It’s modern and stylish and has a great atmosphere.

I personally prefer to go off peak times, like at 12pm, just before the lunchtime rush, or at 4pm just after the lunchtime rush.

That way I can get a seat at the bar, which I prefer to the tables, and the server has time to speak to me and answer all my cheesy questions!

It is a smart place and the times I have been here I have found the staff very attentive and professional.

When I go I always have a couple of wines by the glass, of which they have quite a few to choose from, and I always order the cheese board of the day.

Cheese board of the day

Every day at Poncelet Cheese Bar, they change their cheese board of the day, so you could go every day and try different cheeses each time.

Their daily cheese platter consists of six cheeses which they present in the order that you should eat them, starting with the softest or weakest cheese and normally finishing with a blue cheese.

They also give you a card which tells you what you are eating, where it comes from and how it is produced. It also reminds you the order in which to eat the cheeses.

The cheese is always served with a small selection of delicious breads too.

If you don’t fancy the cheese platter of the day you can order other cheese snacks or main courses from the menu.

At the Poncelet Cheese Bar in Madrid, they also do courses and events like wine and cheese pairing, for example.
